VSA Bolsters its Reputation as a Certified Woman-Owned Business

VSA Prospecting strengthened its status as a certified woman-owned business this month, renewing its credentials as a Minority Business Enterprise in the state of Maryland.

The company is similarly certified in its home state of New Jersey, as well as Pennsylvania and New York. VSA is also certified through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), a leading non-profit organization dedicated to helping women-owned businesses thrive.

Fittingly, VSA’s most recent certification comes during National Women’s Small Business Month, a celebration that encourages people to support woman-owned companies in their communities.

Since its inception 21 years ago, VSA has been owned and operated by Valerie Schlitt, a graduate of the Wharton School’s MBA program. She started the company in her living room with a few friends as employees after previously holding marketing management positions and consulting roles at multiple large corporations.

VSA has grown steadily under Ms. Schlitt’s leadership. Today, the company has more than 200 employees providing outbound, inbound, and other call center services to a wide range of diverse clients in technology, healthcare, manufacturing, education, government, and more.

“Honestly, at first I never focused too much on VSA being a woman-run business, but when you step back and look at the big picture and think about how much we’ve grown and the progress made by women-owned businesses, it is something everybody at the company can be proud of,” Ms. Schlitt says. “It’s inspiring to see how far women in business have come over the last 30, 40 years, and there is something special about being part of that community.”

VSA continues to take its status as a certified woman-owned business seriously. The company is focused on adding certifications in California and other states.

Each certification opens the door to potential new business opportunities. The certifications are often important to companies looking to partner with women-owned businesses.

“Receiving these certifications is definitely a factor in helping people grow their business,” Ms. Schlitt says. “We have had clients who specifically asked if we were a woman-owned business and who chose to work with us because we are. Especially back in the day, I do believe there are a lot of woman and minority business owners who would not have been given a leg up without these requirements.”
