AI Meets the Sales World

Oct 1, 2017 | Inside Sales, Perspectives and Opinions

This past August, VSA announced an internal prospecting program launch in partnership with Aligned 2aT, the creator of JOY – the world’s first AI sales assistant that can determine a prospect’s emotional and motivational drivers and build a plan for every sales call. A few weeks ago, we attended the Boston AA-ISP conference (American Association of Inside Sales Professionals) where the topic of AI was featured in a couple of the breakout sessions. AI has met the sales world and it has caused quite a stir.

According to Salesforce IQ, the top three current uses for AI are:

1. Sales and marketing lead scoring

2. Sales forecasting

3. Customer service case routing

The emergence of AI in the sales (and marketing) world is the next evolutionary impulse in an industry that has become more and more data driven. If you take a step back and look at the big picture, it makes complete sense that the robust data capability that has developed in sales would one day morph into Artificial Intelligence. If this trend continues as expected, AI will only become more and more prevalent and widely used.

There are some contingencies that worry AI will take over, making salespeople more and more obsolete. But, in the same way that email and social media could never fully get rid of on-the-phone and face-to-face customer interaction as people feared in the beginning, neither will AI. The companies that are smart will use AI as they have used all data and metrics tools – to assist and support their sales teams to greater success. Nothing can replace the human touch. We are hard-wired to connect with each other.
Here at VSA we are excited to embrace the possibilities of AI and see how far it can take us.
